Pawn of prophecy
The wraparound cover for the novel of the same name by David Eddings, released as a special edition from Grim Oak Press.
For this first book in the series I wanted to do an homage to that original yellow-mapped cover that so many of us know (and still have.) I knew Polgara and Garion had to be in the same pose as then, but reimagined as my mind’s eye saw them and surrounded by their companions. The color palette I chose is the same as that original book as well and was perfect for that dawn atmosphere over the farmlands of Sendaria.
It was a huge honor for me to paint the wraparound cover for this first book in the series. Garion, his family, and story made a deep impact on who I am and set me decidedly on my path to becoming an illustrator. I will forever be grateful to David Eddings for setting me on that path.
INTERIOR DRAWINGS
Along with the cover art Grim Oak commissioned interior drawings to go along with the text. That was outstanding news as I’d already been drawing these characters for years! For this book I focused those drawings into portraits of the characters or individual teaching moments with younger Garion. Along with these you can see the maps I meticulously recreated from the originals.
I’m offering the interiors in a limited-edition portfolio run of 10,
I’m offering the maps at a larger size open-edition run,
Enjoy!
